Relationship between visual field size and head motion in eyepiece displays

Abstract(in English) We examined the relationship between the size of the visual field and head motion by using an eyepiece-type display that cut out images from a displayed wide-field image and considered all images other than the displayed image to be restricted in the visual field. The experiment was conducted using monocular glasses for restricting the visual field and a three-dimensional magnetic sensor for measuring head motion. Each image was viewed at a viewing distance of 4 meters. Viewing angles of 20, 40, and 60 degrees were used as the field of view. Six-degree-of-freedom head movements were measured during viewing, and the results were analyzed mainly in terms of yawing. Based on the saliency map of the displayed images and the correspondence of feature points between images, we found a relationship between the size of each field of view and the directional and velocity distributions of the head.
