Genetic Algorithm for Dynamic Reversible Lanes and Predicted Speed based Rerouting to reduce Total Trave Time

抄録(和) Congestion is an ever-growing issue, representing a huge time loss for individuals and cities alike. To avoid the cost of building new lanes, we studied the use of Dynamic Reversible Lanes (DRL), which can change direction in real time. Using a genetic algorithm, we developed a method for reversing lanes working in a constant time, and we demonstrated that a network with reversible lanes can perform as high as 90% of the total travel time (TTT) of a similar network with twice its number of lanes. We extended this algorithm with a real-time rerouting for cars, to provides robustness against unexpected traffic and yields an additional 5% increase in TTT. According to our simulation, combining both methods reduces the TTT for vehicles by more than 20%.
