Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) When overlapping Al/Cu sheets (0.5 mm thick) were fixed on a 10-turn flat coil and magnetic pulse welding was performed, it was possible to achieve high-speed collision and high-quality welding similar to a generally used 1-turn flat coil. Welding experiments were performed with discharge current flowing from a parallel-charge series-discharge capacitor bank to the 10-turn coil (consisting of 10 coil plates). Two advantages of using the high-inductance 10-turn coil are that it reduces the maximum discharge current from the capacitor bank and increases the efficiency of electromagnetic energy transfer from the bank to the coil. The bank energy, maximum discharge current and rise time required for welding were about 0.7 kJ, 16 kA and 5 μs, respectively. However, it was necessary to carefully select the position and range of direct soldering of the coil plates. Here, an example of the soldering method is explained using disassembled photographs of the soldered coil part and coil plate. A soldering tool is also shown.
