Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The polar codes, introduced by Ar?kan, use a technique called channel polarization and can achieve the capacity of a given memoryless channel with low computational and spatial complexity. Polar codes for source coding can also achieve the theoretical limit of performance with source polarization. Joint source and channel coding is expected to better performance than separate source and channel coding. Indeed, joint source-channel coding based on systematic polar codes can achieve the theoretical limit for the system in which the decoder can access side information of source messages if the positions of information bits are aligned in desired locations. The operation of allocating systematic bits to desired positions, called bit-swap, has been proposed. The decoding algorithm, however, becomes complex as the number of swapped bit pairs increases. In this paper, we analyze polarization after bit-swap operation to further elucidate codes' overall performance and simplify the decoding algorithm. To this end, we make clear how bit-swap operation affects polarization of the other bits.
