A Study on Bayesian Receiver Design for Uplink MU-MIMO Systems with Carrier Frequency Offsets

Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a novel Bayesian receiver design to realize high-accuracy data detection under observations subject to different frequency offsets (CFOs) among users in multi-user multi-input multi-output (MU-MIMO) systems. Phase shift led by CFO makes it hard to detect data symbols with high accuracy, which becomes one of the major obstacles to achieving the ideal performance of uplink MU-MIMO. To resolve this issue, this paper investigates belief propagation (BP)-based joint CFO, channel, and data estimation method. In the proposed method, the prior distribution of phase shift is represented by employing highly flexible and tractable Gaussian-mixture (GM) distribution, and the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm for updating distribution parameters included in GM distribution is extending to a suitable form for CFO estimation, realizing robust joint estimation. The efficacy of the proposed method is confirmed by computer simulations in terms of the normalized mean square error (NMSE) performance and the bit error rate (BER) performance.
