Abstract(in English) | This paper describes the effects of drivers’ reaction delays, the sensing radius, the V2V communication radius, and the penetration ratio of V2V communication of alert-type driver assistance systems on traffic safety by using our microscopic traffic flow simulator which includes sensor and V2V communication systems. The results show that, from the viewpoint of widespread, it is effective to prevent increasing costs due to overengineering performance that comprehensive consideration of advances in sensors, V2V communications, and HMI technologies when designing alert-type driver assistance systems. Especially, this paper also describes that drivers’ reaction delays significantly affect traffic safety so that it is essential to enhance performance of HMI to alert dangerous situations on drivers to start mitigating collisions quickly. Moreover, we evaluate two penetration scenarios of autonomous vehicles and various alert-type driver assistance systems under various drivers’ reaction delays consideration. The results show that advances in HMI significantly contribute to reducing traffic accidents. |
