Abstract(in English) | In 2015, Mycobacterium chimaera infection was reported in a patient who had undergone open heart surgery, and it was revealed that the cause was bacterial contamination of circulating water in the Heater-Cooler Unit (HCU) for cardiopulmonary bypass. This led to the recommendation of hygiene management for devices with water circuits in operating rooms. However, even now, there are no guidelines, and the method is left to each hospital. Therefore, for the purpose of selecting appropriate hygiene management, we first attempted to identify and classify bacteria in circulating water in HCUs at three medical institutions to determine the bacterial contamination status of devices used in clinical settings. As a result, glucose non-fermentative Gram-negative rods were commonly detected in all hospitals. Therefore, it was suggested that HCUs may be a potential source of infection when sanitation and operation of the HCUs are inappropriate. |
