Abstract(in English) The oxidization in the granular recording layer controlled by changing the amount of Co3O4 added to the CoPtCr-SiO2 composite target was investigated to reduce the noise of the sputtered tapes under distinctive conditions of the roll-to-roll sputtering system. The addition of Co3O4 causes the diffusion of Si and Cr from within the magnetic grains to the oxide grain boundaries by oxidation, resulting in the simultaneous enhancement of magnetic isolation and magnetic anisotropy. The noise voltage was reduced owing to the enhanced magnetic isolation, and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) improved by 3.6 dB with the addition of 1.2 mol% Co3O4 to the target.
