Correction Method Using Markers for Detecting Information from Printed Images

Abstract(in English) A data-embedding technique for a printed image has been proposed to embed information in an image, print it out, and retrieve the embedded information from the image captured by a smartphone's camera. This technique is expected to be an alternative to QR codes. The technique must embed information without compromising the design of the image while informing the user that the information has been embedded. We focus on lines for detecting the position of an image and replace these lines with markers of a distinctive shape that does not detract from the design of the target image. In this paper, we propose a detection method that corrects captured images using triangular markers and lines that correct the image distortion caused by lenses. The proposed method can achieve detection rates comparable to or higher than the conventional method. Experimental results show that the proposed method can detect embedded information as well as or better than the conventional method, and the effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed.
