Evacuation Guidance Method Using Haptics for Emergency Rescue Evacuation Support System

Abstract(in English) We have been developing an Emergency Rescue Evacuation Support System (ERESS) to support evacuation in the occurrence of a localized disaster such as fires and incidents. This system automatically detects disasters quickly using only mobile terminals equipped with multiple sensors, such as smartphones, and provides real-time disaster information to disaster evacuees. In this report, we propose a new evacuation guidance method using haptics technology, which is a tactile technology, in order to convey the evacuation route to disaster evacuees more easily when visibility is poor due to smoke. By using haptics during evacuation guidance, it is possible to intuitively confirm the direction to evacuate by using vibration effect even if it is not visually clear. As a result of performance evaluation by basic experiments, we have confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method.
