Writer Verification Based on Finger-writing of a Simple Symbol

Abstract(in English) We proposed writer verification based on writing of a simple symbol on a smartphone screen, called where users draw a simple symbol with their finger as one form of biometric authentication. Among the features used for authentication, it is considered that the finger contact area feature and finger pressure feature do not depend on the shape of the symbol. This paper focuses on the relationship between finger contact area and finger pressure, which increase proportionally when pressing the finger on a smartphone screen. Specifically, we plot the time-series data of finger pressure and finger contact area on a two-dimensional graph, approximate their relationship with a straight line, and use the slope and intercept as a new feature called "finger softness feature." The Equal Error Rate (EER) of this new feature was obtained as 19.8% as the best case and an average EER of around 23%. The new feature is considered superior compared to directly using conventional finger pressure and finger contact area features.
