[Invited Talk] Efficient organic photonic devices by making use of triplet excited states

Abstract(in English) Organic optoelectronics have attracted significant attention as alternative and complementary technologies of inorganic semiconductors. Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), which are one of the typical devices, have been widely used in practical applications such as high-resolution flexible displays and solid-state lighting with low-power consumption. Also, organic solid-state lasers (OSLs), which are recently developed, would provide new applications because of the flexibility of color tuning based on the freedom of molecular design and potentially low-cost manufacturability. To utilize efficient electroluminescence (EL) and stimulated emission in these devices, the engineering of molecular excited states is crucially important. The molecular excited states are classified into (spin-) singlet and triplet excited states. In electrical excitations or CW photoexcitation, the triplet excited states are massively formed, and generally non-emissive excited states. Therefore, triplet managements are key factor for improving the performances of organic photonic devices. In this presentation, our recent progress in the improving OLED and OSLD performances by triplet managements are provided.
