Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A transcript is one of the indispensable resources for advancing interaction studies, which generally include both linguistic and paralinguistic information. Reliability and accuracy are key in transcription where various aspects of the utterance are visually presented, but discrepancies can occur between different individuals or the same individual doing transcriptions. For instance, discrepancy tends to occur when paralinguistic information such as the length of filler or laughter; the start and end positions of overlapping utterances; tone and speed are transcribed. This paper therefore discusses how to create transcripts using ELAN (annotation software) for audio and video recorded task-based dialogues between pairs of Japanese speakers, within a step-by-step process of participants’ actions. This paper specifically focuses on the creation of transcripts including overlapping utterances.
