Detection of Damaged Area caused by Earthquake based on Seven-Component Scattering Power Decomposition of Fully Polarimetric SAR

Abstract(in English) Algorithm on detecting damaged area caused by earthquake by using synthetic aperture radar is highly expected. However, since the scattering mechanism of man-made area is complex, developing such algorithm is still difficult. The latest data interpretation algorithm, i.e., seven-component scattering power decomposition shows higher performance on distinguishing building areas from vegetation areas, and can provide more sufficient scattering information. Therefore, it is possible to be effective for detecting the damaged area. In this study, using ALOS2-PALSAR2 data of Mashiki-machi and Kumamoto area, which was damaged by the Kumamoto Earthquake, we quantified the changes in the 7 components, and proposed and verified the damaged area detecting method.
