A Method for Language Learning by Contrasting the Interpretaion of Two Cognitive Processes

Abstract(in English) In this paper, the author focuses on two cognitive processes in which we perceive things and explains that the segmental differences for implicating the external world correspond to two semantic formations: quantification and relationalization. Then, examples are given of linguistic expressions (especially differences based on Japanese unmarked-ness) in which differences in meaning formation are clearly identified. These examples and their bilingual translations (in English or Chinese) are listed and contrasted. These examples show that it is possible to make learners aware of the cognitive processes behind the description of their native language and that it is important for learners to understand differences in ways of thinking when learning a foreign language.
