Operating Analysis of Doherty-Outphasing Hybrid Power Amplifier on Saturation Region

Abstract(in English) In WiCoPT systems, which can transmit information and power simultaneously, modulated signals with high PAPR are used. Therefore, a transmitter in a WiCoPT system requires a power amplifier with wide dynamic range, wide bandwidth, and high efficiency. This paper reports the results of an operational analysis of a hybrid amplifier with Outphasing operation on the high output side and Doherty operation on the low output side to improve the performance in the saturation region. load-pull simulations of a symmetrical Doherty amplifier with 50 Ω input and output were performed to obtain the optimal impedance of the amplifier was obtained. Using the results, a Chireix combiner based on the impedance optimized at the saturated output point with maximum backoff efficiency and higher output power is realized. Simulation analysis of a hybrid amplifier using the above Chireix combiner shows that the hybrid power amplifier can achieve a 1.2dB increase in saturation region without changing the parameters of the symmetric Doherty amplifier.
