Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The activation of the prefrontal cortex during rhythm action game was analyzed by using NIRS. Participants were classified to two groups (Skilled and Novice) based on the proficiency of a rhythm action game, and three levels of difficulty (Easy, Middle and Difficult) of the game were imposed to the participants as experimental tasks. The change in oxy-HB of the prefrontal cortex was measured by NIRS, and the effect of rhythm action game playing on activation/deactivation of the prefrontal cortex was examined. As a result, the activation in lateral prefrontal cortex was found in the condition where a participant in the Skilled group played Middle and Difficult level games, meanwhile it was not found in the Novice group. It is speculated that such difference of the prefrontal cortex activation between the proficiency in video games occurs because of the development of gaming skills in novice players and the accomplished cerebral processes in adept players.
