Impact of Network Quality on Image-Based Control

Abstract(in English) Digitization in various fields relies on Internet of Things (IoT) as a way for data acquisition. Network intermittency particularly affects a robotics IoT device, which behavior is controlled by obtained information based on captured images. This paper clarify how network quality fluctuation impacts the behavior of robotic devices, for which utilize image-based feedback control. Specifically, we conduct experiments to measure the impacts for a remote control of a robotics device based on the ROS2 (Robot Operating System 2) developer platform in a network environment with pseudo-packet loss. We use two terminals, one transmits images and the other receives the images for object recognition, which are connected by a wireless LAN. We use a simple harmonic oscillating object as a source of successive input images for object recognition and clarifies how network quality impact the object recognition.
