Abstract(in English) | Hippocampal neurons that represent the animal's self-location are called "place cells." In the maze task in rodents, hippocampal replays are observed in which the sequential firing of place cells during exploration is reproduced as fast synchronous firing during rest. Reverse replays that fire in the reverse order of the path also occur. Recent studies have also reported that hippocampal replays represent paths that animals never-experience during exploration, suggesting that hippocampal replays contribute to spatial learning. The mechanism of hippocampal replay has been extensively studied using neural network models. However, there is a lack of models that explain the mechanisms underlying the emergence of replay of never-experienced path. In this study, we constructed a spiking neural network of the hippocampal CA3 region and proposed a mechanism by which hippocampal replays of never-experienced paths are acquired through synaptic plasticity that occurs during exploration of a figure-8 maze. In the proposed hippocampal spiking network, the combination of forward and reverse replay results in replays of never-experienced paths. |
