Performance Evaluations of Point Cloud Streaming Considering Perceptual Quality

Abstract(in English) A point cloud streaming based on MPEG-Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) is expected to realize highly immersive communication. This paper proposes a perceptual-quality driven DASH representation generation method, DASH recipe generator, to achieve efficient multiple point clouds streaming for 6 Degree of Freedom users. We model a relationship between the user’s perceptual quality and the distance of the user’s viewpoint and point cloud object, and then we integrate the model into the DASH recipe generator. The evaluation results conclude that the proposed DASH recipe reduces significant bitrates while keeping the perceptual quality compared to the previous method, the bitrate-driven DASH recipe.
