Abstract(in English) | In recent years, "cooperative driving", in which multiple vehicles acquire, coordinate and control their position information at intersections and merging points in urban areas, and drive in a cooperative, has attracted much attention. We propose a multi-layer Edge Server (ES) to optimize the edge positions for computational processing according to the nature of the information collected by Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) for optimal cooperative driving control and show that a multi-layer ES is effective for cooperative driving control when we use travel time as a KPI. However, we establish no method for evaluating the effectiveness of the multi-layer ES using various KPIs to assess traffic efficiency effects, or for evaluating the cost-benefit arising from the realization of the multi-layer ES. In this paper, we use the Metropolitan Expressway as a use case and simulate it using real traffic data. We show that our proposed cooperative driving control using multi-layer ES is effective in achieving various KPIs related to traffic efficiency. We also establish a calculation method for cost-benefit analysis and a method for evaluating the feasibility of the multi-layer ES. And although it is only an example, and not for research purposes, we perform a cost-benefit analysis using a formula that we define in practice. |
