Study of Network Capacity for Mixture of Concurrent and Sequential Transmission Scheme over LoRa Networks

Abstract(in English) Long-range low-power wireless communications, also known as LoRa, are widely used in many sensor networks and Internet of Things (IoT) systems. Recently, it has gained attention in academia and the industrial communities with the benefits of extended battery life and long communication range. In this paper, we conduct the study of network capacity for the mixture of concurrent and sequential transmission (MCST) scheme over LoRa networks. Our simulation results reveal that MCST is suitable to implement in the LoRa network, and it can achieve higher throughput with low latency and low energy consumption compared to the existing CSMA approach and slotted LoRa MAC. Besides, we also propose a modified MCST over the LoRa (mMCST/LoRa) scheme to mitigate the transmission latency further. The simulation results show a better performance in terms of throughput, latency, energy consumption, and overhead ratio, regardless of the frame payload size and the number of nodes in the network.
