A Study on Reducing Transmission Waiting Time Using Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access in UAV Uplink Communication System

Abstract(in English) Recently, a multi-stage relay transmission system using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) has been proposed to efficiently collect information from wide-area roadside devices. In this system, a multiplexing scheme that integrates nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and time division multiple access (TDMA) has been proposed to improve transmission efficiency. In the conventional method, however, information on neighboring devices can be collected only when a periodically circling UAV enters the communication area, and TDMA is applied to communication between a fixed UAV and a circling UAV, resulting in long transmission waiting time. To tackle this problem, in this paper, we propose a new method to reduce thetransmission waiting time of fixed UAV by applying NOMA-based scheduling to communications between fixed and circlingUAVs. Numerical simulations show that the minimum transmission waiting time for fixed UAV can be improved by 89% to 94% and the average transmission waiting time for fixed UAV can be improved by 36% to 86% compared to conventional method.
