Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, researchers have been exploring ways to create the sensation of smell and other intranasal chemosensation. However, there haven't been many studies on how to use these techniques in real-world applications. In this study, we suggest a way to guide the participant in a virtual reality (VR) environment by presenting stimuli (olfactory stimulation or electrical stimulation) to the left or right side of the nose. The results showed that the extranasal electrical stimulation led the participants to choose the side with the stimulation. In contrast, the olfactory stimulation alone had no guiding effect but enhanced the presence in the VR space.
