Handover Control Based on Sojourn Time in Heterogeneous Ultra-Dense Arrangements of Cells

Abstract(in English) As the number of mobile connections increases, small cells such as the recently introduced 5G base stations are deployed on top of macrocells such as the traditionally used 4G base stations, and the number of base stations continues to grow. The increase in the number of base stations causes an increase in the number of times mobile users switch cells, i.e., the number of handovers. Since handover is an interruption of the connection and leads to latency and power consumption, it is better to avoid unnecessary handover and increase in the number of handovers. To reduce the number of handovers while maintaining communication quality, we propose an algorithm that focuses on the time spent in a cell by a user, connects to the base station with the maximum time spent in a cell, and sets a threshold for the time spent in that cell.
