A Study and Evaluation of Router Load Reduction Method using Packet Aggregation

Abstract(in English) Machine-to-machine (M2M) connectivity in the Internet is considered to be used in a variety of fields, and explosive growth in the number of M2M connected devices predicted. Therefore, it is expected that the number of short packets with small packet size will also increase due to the increase in sensor devices. An increase in short packets may induce congestion due to an influx of packets that exceeds the router's packet processing capacity. To reduce the processing load on routers, a method of aggregating packets on the same paths is being considered. In addition, we have proposed a method using route change and multiple aggregation routes as a method to improve the reduction rate. For this purpose, it is necessary to install routers with aggregating/dividing functions, which increases equipment costs. In this paper, we report a proposal for reducing the number of facilities and the evaluation result of its effect.
