Overview of research and development of wire-free cooperative robots

Abstract(in English) There are many wires inside mechatronic devices and robots. We call replacing the wiring inside the devices with wireless as “a wireless harness”, and have been conducting research since 2009, ahead of others. Since FY2023, after more than 15 years have passed since then, Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR), Muroran Institute of Technology, Chiba University, and Tokyo City University have created a new research group to develop wire-free robots that operate in coordination. In this research, in addition to controlling by wireless communication in the 60 GHz band and supplying electric power by non-contact method, the robot is ready to assemble and has the ability to work cooperatively. Wireless communication will be faster and implemented in smaller devices than last project, and the peak electric power will go up to 1 kW. Every aspect is getting closer to practical use. In this paper, the background of this research and the overall outline are explained.
