Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | We interviewed college students about the frequency of their Twitter posts, the content of their posts, and how they deal with unpleasant tweets when they see them, and examined the factors that promote or hinder the construction of social networks via Twitter, from the perspectives of both situational factors and personality factors. Three factors were identified as promoting social networking on Twitter: 1) high social tolerance, 2) opportunities for face-to-face encounters through Twitter, and 3) high motivation to connect with others on Twitter. Since most of the college students had face-to-face relationships with people other than family members, those who had tried to connect with others on Twitter in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic but were unable to do so tended to decrease their Twitter use as their face-to-face contacts increased. |
