Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In the cerebral cortex and hippocampus, synaptic contacts are made on axonal boutons rather than axon terminals, and synaptic plasticity is expressed by the dynamic changes in the cytoskeletal structure of dendritic spines. It is also proposed that the formation, growth and pruning of spines occur under the interaction mediated by Rho-GTPases diffusing among neighboring spines on the same dendrite. In the present study, we build a mathematical model of synaptic rewiring based on the interspine interaction and perform computer simulations to reproduce neurons’ receptive fields and orientation-direction joint maps in the visual cortex. Furthermore, we argue the changes of the total number of synapses on excitatory neurons during the critical period.
