Abstract(in English) | NaBH$_4$ is attracting attention as a hydrogen source for fuel cells because it has a high volumetric energy density, is stable as a powder at room temperature and pressure, and does not produce carbon dioxide during hydrogen production. The volumetric energy density of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell system (PEFC) fueled by NaBH$_4$ and water as hydrogen sources are lowered because more water than the theoretical amount of water is fed into the system to allow NaBH$_4$ and water to react sufficiently. As a solution to this issue, this paper examines the effectiveness of recovering water, a byproduct of fuel cell power generation, and reusing it as fuel in a PEFC fueled by NaBH$_4$ and water. As a result, for the PEFC used in this study, a stoichiometric ratio of 2.0 for the air flow rate and a fuel cell cooling water temperature of 70$ {}^circmathrm{C}$ were suitable. It was also found that the volumetric energy density can be significantly improved by attaching a fan of less than $1 %$ of the output power to the cathode-side condenser. |
