Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The goal of this study is to activate reaction surges during virtual events, i.e., to increase opportunities for participants to react synchronously. For this purpose, two types of reaction activation mechanisms were created: the first is a condition in which the system activates a reaction surge by mimicking participants' reactions (Inner), and the second is a condition in which the system activates a reaction surge from moderator's reactions (Outer). In this experiment, a virtual event was held under each of the three conditions (Inner, Outer, and Control), and the effect of each condition was measured. Objective evaluation showed that the Inner and Outer conditions statistically significantly increased the rate and frequency of participants' reaction compared to the Control condition. In the subjective evaluation, although there was no statistical significant difference, the Inner condition was found to be more exciting than the Control condition, while the Outer condition was found to be less exciting than the Inner condition. This study suggests that the Inner condition may induce an increase in excitements of virtual events, both subjectively and objectively. Since the mechanism is simple, it is expected to be used in a variety of virtual events.
