| Abstract(in English) | Personal space (PS) is a region that surrounds the body and causes discomfort when others enter it. Previous research has examined PS in a real-world environment but has not considered how different human characteristics, such as appearance or walking pattern, influence it. Furthermore, there is little understanding of how perceptual information processing affects PS. The present study investigated the effect of perceptual information processing on PS, using biological motion (BM) as a tool, which only comprises human walking patterns. The experiment manipulated prior knowledge (friend or stranger) presentation before the BM presentation. The results showed that discomfort in PS was weaker in the friend condition than in the stranger condition. These findings suggest that top-down processing of acquaintance can influence discomfort in PS. |
