Abstract(in English) | China's first Mars rover “Zhurong” has begun its exploration on the surface of Utopian Planitia since May 22, 2021. Mars rover penetrating radar (RoPeR) is one of the key payloads onboard the Zhurong rover. The aims of RoPeR are to reveal the subsurface structures and properties at the landing site, which is significant to understand the regional geological characteristics, environmental history, and climate evolution. Until May 5, 2022, the Zhurong rover has recorded a massive amount of scientific data. In this paper. a processing scheme, including time-delay calibration, background removal, band-pass filtering, and time-variant gain, is proposed to deal with the recorded low-frequency channel data of RoPeR. In the processed results, 150 hyperbolic reflections are identified at a horizontal distance of 766.25 m, preliminarily indicating the massive existence of buried rocks in the Utopia Planitia. While enough numbers of rocks could be detected up to the depth of 65 m, the fining-upward sequences were not found. |
