Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Hospital Information Systems (HIS) have been introduced in almost all large hospitals. In addition to this, IP networks (hospital LANs) have been installed in hospitals to enable immediate and accurate sharing of patient information. According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, more than 90% of Japanese hospitals have already installed wireless LANs. In recent years, HIS terminals with wireless LAN function have enabled referencing and inputting patient information, including images and movies, at the bedside. The number of medical devices with wireless LAN communication functions is also increasing. However, according to the aforementioned survey, about half of hospitals have experienced some kind of trouble. The issues to manage the wireless LANs for patients including the security aspect has also emerged, and may become problems for the future of wireless LAN use. Stable operation of networks is essential for modern medical care. Here, we summarize the issues in hospital LANs, mainly at the physical layer, and the problems that are likely to occur in the future, and present possible solutions to them. |
