| Abstract(in English) | We examined the relation between home exposure to picture books and TV and digital media and preschoolers' emotion understanding to explore the factors influencing their development of emotional understanding. We administered emotion understanding tasks (affect knowledge and emotional voice tasks) to 157 preschoolers (3 to 6 -year-old). Their parents responded to a questionnaire regarding their children’s exposure to picture books and TV and digital media. Results showed that performance on the affect knowledge task was positively correlated with the amount of exposure to and interest in picture books. Performance on the affect knowledge task was also significantly higher in the preschoolers who did not watch educational TV/digital media than those who did. These results suggest that exposure to picture books and educational TV/digital media may influence preschoolers' emotional development. |
