Abstract(in English) | Image editing is a technique to transform input images into output images for various purposes. As one image editing technique, image montage technique combines multiple input images into a single natural-looking output image. In this study, we propose an image montage method that combines two input images of different scenes into one natural-looking output image. The proposed method uses plane sweep method to make the relative arrangement of two input images changeable according to positions. First, two input images are projected onto each plane from input viewpoints on the left and right sides of the output viewpoint on the three-dimensional space. Then, a similarity image is obtained by evaluating the similarity in the overlapping region on planes. The color histogram is used to evaluate the similarity. Next, similar regions are extracted from the similarity image by clustering its pixels. Then, the optimal boundary on each similar region is obtained by the boundary search algorithm of image quilting method, and the optimal total boundary is obtained from the combination of all optimal boundaries. Finally, the two input images are combined along the optimal total boundary using plane sweep method, and an output image is obtained by blending the boundary regions |
