Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We examined whether the spell “Pain, Pain, Go Away” is effective in attenuating pain. Some subjects (spell group) were presented with an auditory stimulus of the spell and a thermal (pain) stimulus simultaneously, while the others (control group) were presented only with the thermal one. They rated subjective pain of the thermal stimuli. Moreover, skin conductance level was measured. No significant difference in the subjective pain and SCL were found between the spell and control conditions, suggesting that pain attenuating effect by the spell “Pain, Pain, Go Away” was not evident in the present experimental setting.
