Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The recurrence plot visualizes the complex multidimensional system’s dynamics as a two-dimensional binary image. Applied to it, recurrence quantification analysis provides statistics of the recurrence plot structures, such as diagonal lines. Various applied studies used these powerful methods to investigate experimental nonlinear time series dynamics. However, recurrence quantification analysis includes different parameters that might affect its results. While some of these parameters are well studied, others, such as the minimal diagonal line length of the recurrence plot, are still not well investigated. Our previous study found that varying minimal diagonal line length in calculating the determinism index of the recurrence quantification analysis may provide qualitative characteristics to differentiate noise-free and noise-induced data. However, the previous study used only the determinism index, while other recurrence quantification analysis measures also include minimal diagonal line length as a parameter. Also, only qualitative difference was found, without any attempt to quantify it. In this report, we furthered our previous study by additional examination of the determinism index trends and investigation of the recurrence quantification analysis' average diagonal line length and entropy, which include minimal diagonal line length as a parameter. Results demonstrated that all three investigated indexes have the potential to provide qualitative differentiation of the noise-free and noisy data. Additionally, the possibility of utilizing the determinism index for quantitative differentiation of the noise levels in data was found.
