Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In recent years, there has been a growing movement to put the Brain-Machine Interface (BMI), which directly connects the brain and machines, to practical use in the medical, welfare, and health fields. The PI at AIST has developed BMI-related hardware and software; e.g., a convenient headgear to record high-quality brainwave data (electroencephalogram; EEG) and analytical methods to detect a cognitive component of EEG (Event-Related Potential; ERP). These core technologies allow us to use the brainwave signal as a switch to control external devices (Brain Switch). A cognitive training system "Neurotrainer????" combines the Brain Switch with existing systems such as humanoid robots and VR games for effective neurofeedback. The assumed users of this system are wide-ranging, including elderly people who are at high risk of dementia prevention, patients who are bedridden for a long time, and young people who are interested in esports. Therefore, competitive game events using Neurotrainer ("b-sports''), as a social activity that transcends generational differences and the presence or absence of disabilities, will contribute to the promotion of public health and the development of new industries.
