| Abstract(in English) | Polymer-dispersed liquid crystal devices (PDLCs) are capable of electrical switching between light-scattering and transparent states and can be applied to smart windows. Switching between the light-scattering of black dye-doped PDLC has also been investigated. In this study, we used Sudan black as a dye and clarified the effect of dye doping on electro-optical properties in PDLCs fabricated with NOA65 and E7 which are the most widely used monomer and LC materials in PDLC research. During polymerization and phase separation process by UV irradiation, decolorization of the dye was confirmed. On the other hand, the decolorizing effect was not observed when the dye was dissolved in liquid crystal and irradiated with UV light, indicating that the dye decolorization was strongly influenced by the polymerization initiator. |
