Study on improvement of temperature sensitivity of packaged Long-Period Fiber Gratings

Abstract(in English) We investigated the improvement of temperature sensitivity for long-period fiber grating (LPFG) sensors packaged in glass capillaries. In generally, packaged LPFG sensors have a gas or solid filling between the capillary and the LPFG. In this study, we proposed liquid filling, which had not been considered as a filler, and evaluated the temperature sensitivity characteristics of LPFG sensors fabricated using four types of solutions with different thermo-optic coefficients. It was clarified that a liquid with a large thermo-optical coefficient is effective for improving the temperature sensitivity of the packaged LPFG sensor. By filling silicone oil with a high thermo-optic coefficient of -4.5×10-4 (1/deg.C), we realized a liquid-filled LPFG sensor with excellent temperature sensitivity of 86.8 (pm/deg.C).
