Abstract(in English) “Beyond 5G” is expected to be an infrastructure that will play a central role in a cyber-physical society such as “Society 5.0”, Japan's vision for the future society. Autonomous control of optical communication systems is one of the key themes, and the application of machine learning technology (ML) in the optical communication domain has been increasingly attracting attention in recent years. Therefore, for readers who are considering application of ML in the field of optical communications, this paper describes the basic flow and key points for ML implementation, previous works of ML application in the field of optical communications, and, as a more advanced content, the issue of model accuracy deterioration in the continuous operation of ML and solution methods. Finally, we present the prospects for the application of ML, which the authors plan to develop in a national project for the realization of Beyond 5G.
