Abstract(in English) | There is a growing demand for automobile cabin sensing to deal with the recently reported incidents of children being left behind in the cabin. A method based on the combination of multiple sensors has been proposed for the problem, but it requires additional device installation and cost. In this report, we propose an easy-to-install sensing system for automobile cabin that utilizes the audio equipment already existing in the cabin. Microphones and loudspeakers built in the cabin are used to acquire the acoustic frequency characteristics of the cabin, which can be used to estimate the presence/absence and seating position of passengers, and open/close status of the windows. In this report, a simple judgement formula was proposed to detect changes in the frequency characteristics and natural frequencies. Being based on the proposed method, series of experiments were carried out to detect person(s) on a vehicle. We confirmed that the presence/absence and position change of a person was able to be detected with a good accuracy. The seating position was successfully estimated in the same way by sensing the presence/absence for each seat and integrating the information for all the seats. We also confirmed that the same method was applicable to detect the open/close of windows independently of the presence/absence of passengers. |
