A Proposal of Nighttime Dehazing Based on Atmospheric Light Estimation by ε-Max Filter and Gaussian Filters

Abstract(in English) In recent years, many image processing techniques for nighttime haze removal have been studied. However, these methods cause over-enhancement around light source regions. In this report, we propose a new nighttime dehazing method to cope with the problem. In the proposed method, Gaussian filters with two kinds of filter size and max filter with an upper limit are used for atmospheric light estimation. The final atmospheric light is calculated by fusing the output values of each filter with weights based on brightness and a its variance. The proposed method can remove haze while suppressing over-enhancement and over-expanded around light source regions. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by the various experiments.
