Abstract(in English) | Redox mediator (RM) dissolved in the electrolyte solution of Li-O2 cells enables to reduce the charge overvoltage, though a certain part of the charged energy is lost through so-called shuttle effect. Therefore, we proposed to fix RM on air electrodes (AE) by coating a slurry of RM, carbon black and binder on the air electrode instead of dissolving it in the electrolyte solution. Since LiNO3 is reduced into NO2− to be an active RM at the Li electrode, we evaluated alkali metal LiNO2 as RM by coating it on AE. In addition, comparison among LiNO2, NaNO2, and KNO2 revealed better performance of LiNO2 than others with lower charging overpotential. |
