Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In automotive networks such as the Controller Area Network (CAN) and CAN FD (CAN with Flexible Data Rate), it is essential to achieve highly reliable communication to handle control messages for acceleration, direction control, and breaking. To achieve reliable communication, AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture), a global development partnership for the automotive industry, specifies an end-to-end protocol for communication between Electronic Control Units (ECUs). AUTOSAR E2E uses Cyclic Redundancy Checks (CRC) to detect message corruption. However, the exact message corruption detection capability with the AUTOSAR E2E protocol in a realistic controller area network environment has not been sufficiently clarified. Although it is possible to estimate the approximate message corruption detection capability using analytical methods, this approach yields highly conservative results. Thus, system design based on an approximate estimate of the message corruption detection capability might result in an unnecessarily over-qualified system. In this paper, we therefore measure the message corruption detection failure rate of the AUTOSAR E2E protocol by numerical simulations, taking account of the characteristics of CAN and CAN FD.
