Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We conducted a tactile experiment to verify whether there is a difference in the ease of shape identification between raised-line shape, raised-surface shape, and planar figures. In the experiment, we asked blind and sighted people to touch the pairs of shapes made from these three and to tell whether they were the same or not, and measured the correct response rate and response time for identification. The results showed that the correct response rate was significantly higher and the response time was significantly shorter for the planar figures. However, there was no significant difference in the correct response rate and time between blind and sighted participants. Between trials in which different stimulus pairs were presented and trials in which the same stimulus pairs were presented, the correct response rates for the former were higher, and the correct response rates for the latter were merely at the chance level (50%). In other words, the participants tended to judge the stimulus pairs as different.
