Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Captions are extremely important for the Deaf and hard of hearing(DHH) people to understand and comprehend video contents. We have developed a prototype system of novel-game type video viewer(captioNoveL) that provide caption list as the controller. In this study, we investigated DHH students' preference and learning behavior in captioned on-demand video viewing materials and on-demand novel-game type materials using captioNoveL. The results of the experiment showed that both materials had similar learning effectiveness, and that captioNoveL encouraged self-paced active learning. In addition, the learning behavior in captioNoveL was different from that in the conventional video viewing materials, as the students were able to complete the first viewing of the content in the captioNoveL's material in shorter time, and they paused and rewound the content according to their understanding.
