A Proposal of Backlit Image Enhancement Method Suppressing Change of Lightness Order

Abstract(in English) Bright and dark regions in a backlit image decrease its visibility. Conventional image enhancement methods tend to cause artifacts and saturated color in the backlit image. Such problems are largely related to the change of lightness order. In this report, we propose a backlit image enhancement method which suppresses the change of lightness order. In the proposed method, two lightness images enhanced dark and bright area are fused based on a weight map to generate a output lightness image. The weight map is calculated by Otsu’s method and modified guided filter to suppress the change of lightness order due to image fusion. In the experiment, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by comparing with conventional image enhancement methods.
