[Invited Talk] Directional terahertz radiation based on the interaction of electron beams with metamaterials

Abstract(in English) It is known as a Smith?Purcell Effect from 1950’s that the electromagnetic (EM) radiation can be obtained when accelerated electron-beam run over the surface of a metallic grating. Since Urata et al. reported in 1998 that the superradiance, in which the magnitude of the EM radiation could be nonlinearly increased by using a large current from the electron gun of the scanning electron microscope, researches on the Smith?Purcell radiation and superradiance have been actively carried out. In recent years, many researches have been conducted on the EM wave radiation utilizing the interaction between electron-beam and metamaterials, and it has been reported that quasi-monochromatic directional terahertz (THz) EM radiation can be obtained not relying on a large current input. In this report, we discuss on the highly directional THz radiation from graded gratings with gradually varied groove depth or groove spacing, and the special Smith?Purcell radiation from the periodic grating with extremely narrowed groove widths.
